Have you ever gone to the beach and made a sand castle? You knew exactly what you wanted it to look like. But you didn't use a mold of any kind to make it. You took a big lump of wet sand and formed it into a base. Then you made little pinches along the top to make it better. But then, a huge glop of sand falls off the wall! so you pick it back up, push it back in and smooth it down. But then a wave from the ocean comes and ruins all your little pinches of sand! So you start again and make pinches all along the top walls. Nothing happens to it for a while, and you are gradually adding on shells, pretty stones, and feathers. But then a low wave comes and the sand at the bottom starts spreading out from the water. You quickly push it back up and hold it there until it drains enough to pack back into the walls. You grab a board and push it up against the walls of your sandcastle to make them straight. No matter what happens to that sandcastle, you carefully reconstruct it. When night comes you stay out and work on making your castle perfect.
That is how I envision God working on me. When I first became a christian, I was a big glop of wet sand. He formed me and improved me. Directing me to be more and more like Jesus. Perfection will come someday. Until that day he is correcting my imperfections. He is shaping and molding me. I've gone a long way from being a lump of clay, but no where near perfection. He's still working on me. :)
