What is the key to growing in your faith?

On Sunday, I had about 10 of the high schoolers from my church over to my house for a BBQ. Along with a few youth leaders. While we sat in a circle on the grass, eating dinner, my Youth Pastor presented this question:

How do you intend to grow in your faith over the school year?

Some people answered that they would read their bible more. Others said they would pray more. Some said they would do both. So I thought to myself.... Is that all there is to growing closer to God? Just reading the bible, and praying? Those are definitely key things that can help a lot.... but that can't be all there is to it.

Besides reading the bible and praying, I think there are a few other things that are crucial.

1. Listening. Talking to God should not be a 1-way conversation.
2. Reading with purpose. Not just reading the bible because you should. Reading it to find out more about God, to learn commands, to learn from other people's lives.
3. Obeying. Probably the most important way to draw closer to God. It's how we show God that we love Him. Obeying, and trusting Him.

Do you guys have anything to add? Any comments?
